MOVIE OF THE MONTH:
Visit the 'Piranha (1978)' IMDB Page!

There's something in the water at Lost River Lake. Something you can't see... something you can't feel... until it's too late!

Three years after the huge success of JAWS, film legend Roger Corman decided to throw his hat into the JAWS rip-off arena with the (fledgling) Joe Dante-helmed Piranha. After genetically altered piranha are accidentally released into Lost River, its up to a drunk (Bradford Dillman), the mad scientist that created the mini monstrosities (Kevin McCarthy), and a spunky private investigator to stop the piranhas' reign of terror. Piranha is a solid first effort for Joe Dante, and boasts a hauntingly eerie score by Pino Donaggio, a talented cast, and dated (and somewhat cheesy) but still effective special effects from a very young Rob Bottin. This movie heartily gets my recommendation; be sure to check it out before you see the upcoming Piranha 3D! (In theaters on August 20th!) Also, if you're as big a fan of this classic creature feature as I am, then make sure you pick up the upcoming DVD (or Blu-ray) release from Shout! Factory, on August 3rd. Along with a newly remastered (anamorphic widescreen!) version of the film, the disc will also contain trailers, outtakes, bloopers, an audio commentary, behind-the-scenes featurettes, and more!

Amazon.com (Blu-ray), Amazon.com (DVD),
Movies Unlimited (Blu-ray), or Movies Unlimited (DVD)
