A LEGEND IS REBORN!
1977's Legend of Dinosaurs and Monster Birds has finally been given the love it deserves with a Region 1 DVD release from Media Blasters. Before this milestone event, the film has languished in the shadows, showing up on a "KTMA" episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 in 1989, then getting a VHS release by Sandy Frank Productions under the deceitful "Just 4 Kids" video label. For years the film remained in obscurity and could not be obtained in the U.S. Then a few years back, I rediscovered the film and fell in love with it, thanks be to Kevin P., the webmaster of WTF-film.com. Now, thanks to those marvelous bastards at Media Blasters, you too can experience the thrills, chills, and sheer weirdness of this nearly forgotten kaiju film. While this disc is pretty bare bones, the audio and video presentation make it a worthwhile purchase. Order it today from Amazon.com or Movies Unlimited!

MOVIE OF THE MONTH:
Visit the 'Cloverfield (2008)' IMDB Page!

After seeing the mysterious teaser for Cloverfield in theaters, I knew that I had to see it. Sadly, I missed this film during its theatrical run, but I immediately purchased it once it hit DVD. And it was well worth buying because this is one amazingly original film that will fascinate some and infuriate others. The movie is shot via a handheld camcorder and chronicles the fateful night where main character Rob and friends are celebrating his promotion at work. Things are going fine (aside from Rob having an argument with would-be girlfriend Beth) when suddenly all hell breaks loose. A gigantic creature of unknown origin descends upon Manhattan and begins terrorizing the populace. During all the confusion, Rob and several friends break away from the fleeing crowds, and head into mid-town to save Beth. Along the way, they have run-ins with the film's enigmatic creature, large parasitic insects, and an angry and ineffectual military. Will Rob succeed in rescuing his damsel in distress? Will the military find a way to defeat the enigmatic monster? You'll just have to watch the movie to find out! Cloverfield starts off slow, but once it gets going, it is quite a ride. There's plenty of laughs and thrills, and it is one of the most original films you'll witness in this day and age. This movie is not for everyone, but if you are a big fan of giant monster films, or believe that everything J.J. Abrams touches turns to gold, you'll probably enjoy Cloverfield a lot. This flick easily gets my recommendation, so go check it out!
